The Fastest Century in Test Cricket History

Vivian Richards

Isaac Vivian Alexander Richards also known as Sir Vivian Richards born on March 7, 1952, St John's, Antigua. He made his Test Debut against the Indians in the year 1974.
In the year 1986 against England in the 5th match of the series playing in the WestIndies at the Antigua Recreation Ground,St Johns,Antigua.England had won the toss and had elected to field first.West Indies in the first Innings made 474 with contributions from Desmond Haynes 131,Malcolm Marshall 76,M.Holding 73,R.Harper 60.England in their first Innings were All Out for 310 with David Gower, the England Captain top scoring, with 90 runs. Then when West Indies came to bat in the second Innings they had a good lead. They wanted to score quick runs and declare and put pressure on England that was in the mind of the West Indian captain Sir Vivian Richards.West Indies had a good start they lost their first wicket when the score was 100.In came Sir Viv promoting himself at Number 3.He just took the England bowlers apart. He made a Century in just 56 balls. That is world record fastest century of All Time.He remained not out on 110 including 7 fours and 7 sixes.West Indies declared for 246 for the loss of 2 wickets in 43 overs setting a target of 411 for England. In the Second Innings England were All Out for 170.West Indies won that match by 240 runs. And Man of the Match was given to Sir Vivian Richards for his entertaining Century.Adam Gilchrist came close to Sir Viv's record he made a century of just 57 balls against England in the year 2006.

You knew when he was coming. The outgoing batsman would already have disappeared into the pavilion, and the expectation of what was to follow filled the air. Viv kept you waiting ... time to ponder. Then he appeared, sauntering, swaggering, arms windmilling slowly. He would take guard, and then, head tilted back slightly and cudding his gum, he would walk a few paces down the pitch to tap it while looking the bowler in the eye. It was calculated menace and magnificent theatre from arguably the most devastating batsman of all time. How to bowl to him? Get him to the other end, perhaps. Hold your nerve, do not take what might follow as personal. Occasionally he was vulnerable early on if his desire to dominate overwhelmed him. But he had no weakness until his eyesight infinitesimally, but inevitably, started to let him down and those eye-shots became harder. His strengths were on the front foot. So far forward could he get that he was able to plant that right foot outside the line of off stump, at once eliminating lbw and creating his own leg-stump line from where he would flick bowlers relentlessly through midwicket. Or he might send a similar ball skimming through extra cover. Straighten the ball down the line of the stumps and the bowler stood a chance, but he rarely missed and they ran a terrible risk. His power was awesome, he hooked devastatingly and never wore a helmet, rocking back from his front-foot base to take the ball from his eyeline in front of square. Occasionally, for no apparent reason, he would block an over in immaculate fashion, seemingly in defensive position before the ball had left the bowler's hand. Then, refreshed, off he would go again. In his career he played 121 Test matches with an average of 50, including 24 100's and 45 50's.With a Higest score of 291.He played 187 ODI's with an average of 47,including 11 100's and 45 50's.Highest score of 189 in ODI's.His strike rate in ODI's was 90.

Anil Kumble also known by his teammates as Jumbo. He is a real fighter, gives his 100% on the cricket field. One such example was when he was batting against Adam Sanford of West Indies in a Test Match in the Carribean Islands.Adam Sanford West Indies fast bowler bowled a bouncer Kumble got that ball right in his jaw he was bleeding he stopped his batting & went to the pavilion retired hurt. But while India were bowling he came to bowl with a tape all over his face and got the crucial wicket of the master Brian Charles Lara.He is not a turner of the cricket bowls as you expect from Shane Warne or Danish Kaneria. But he sticks to Line and Length, Googlys & his flippers.

Anil Kumble in the second Test match of the 1998-99 season against Pakistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground,New Delhi went through the Pakistani side in the fourth innings picking up all the Ten Wickets. He became only the second man in the Test Cricket History after Jim Laker,of England who took Ten full wickets in the second innings of Australia Batting in the year 1956.Anil Kumble was unplayable on the 4th Day pitch.Pakistan who were chasing a target of 420 in the fourth innings were 100 for no lost. But they lost their first wicket when the score was 101 and were All Out for 207.Only four Pakinstani batsmen were able to make double figures in that innings.Saeed Anwar made 69,Shahid Afridi 41,Saleem Malik 15 and lower down order captain Wasim Akram made 37.India won that Test Match by 212 runs.Man Of the Match was given to Anil Kumble.

Mohd. Yousuf breaks record after record

Mohammad Yousuf

KARACHI, Nov 30: Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf joined the ranks of cricketing greats by setting several records in the third Test against West Indies on Thursday, including the most runs scored in a calendar year - 1,788.

On the first day of the match, the soft-spoken 32-year-old from Lahore said he was honoured to break West Indian Viv Richards's record for centuries in a year after registering his eighth hundred of 2006. In scoring a second century (124) of the match on Thursday and ninth of the year, he also surpassed Richards's record of 1,710 runs established 30 years ago in just 11 matches. With his 23rd career hundred he now has seven centuries against the West Indies in eight Tests. Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer described Yousuf's batting feats as "marvellous". "I have had the privilege of playing with Richards and coaching Yousuf," Woolmer told reporters. "But there is no comparison between the two. Richards was more aggressive and Yousuf is a touch player. They are both greats in their own ways. "To achieve this feat is something great and it has lifted the spirit of the team." The 72-Test veteran has now scored six hundreds in his last five matches, one century more than South Africa's Jacques Kallis, who made five hundreds in five matches. Australian great Donald Bradman registered six hundreds in six consecutive matches.

Highest Aggregate

During the course of his second innings, Yousuf also established a new mark for the highest aggregate in a three-match series with 665 runs, surpassing the previous best of 583 held by compatriot Zaheer Abbas in a home series against India in 1978. Yousuf will also be delighted with the fact that he can finally relinquish the tag of being a player incapable of batting under pressure. "I think Yousuf has now come of age. He can be depended upon to scores for Pakistan in high-pressure situations," former captain Rameez Raja said. After a difficult debut against South Africa in 1997-98, he quickly established himself as a stylish batsman and a pillar of Pakistan's middle order alongside Inzamam-ul-Haq. Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar said the player who converted to Islam in 2005 had turned the corner with his increased mental strength. "He has always been a graceful player in full flow," Manjrekar said. "But the change in him is now he is mentally stronger and more focused out in the middle. He bats like he is in a trance. "I don't know what has brought the change in his attitude but he is now a more composed person out there now." Former Pakistan captain Hanif Mohammad, who batted for 970 minutes to score 337 runs at Bridgetown in 1957/58 and save the Test, described Yousuf's achievement as phenomenal. "He is one of the best batsman produced by Pakistan and the way he is batting I see him going onto break many new records," Hanif said. "I have a feeling this is just a beginning."
