Shahid Afridi made his International Debut at the teen age of 16.He was a very talented youngster.A Right handed Hard Hitting Batsman & a Leg Spin Bowler.
He made his One Day International Debut on October 2,1996 against the Kenyans.In that match he bowled his leg breaks he conceded only 32 runs in his full quota of 10 overs.He didn't get a chance to bat in that innings as the Pakistani batsmen chased the total of 149 set by Kenyans.Pakistan had won that match by 4 wickets with 58 balls remaining.
Shahid Afridi's second match was a match for World Records.Pakistan were playing against Sri Lankans.The day was 4th October 1996.Pakistan had elected to bat first on Gymkhana club Ground,Nairobi.Saeed Anwar And Saleem Elahi opened the innings for Pakistan.They lost their first wicket,of Saleem Elahi,when the score was 60.In came Shahid Afridi promoted to bat at Number 3.He was playing in his first One Day International Innings.Afridi smashed the Sri Lankan bowlers like Chaminda Vaas, Sanath Jayasuriya, Muttiah Muralitharan.He scored the fastest Century in World Cricket of just 37 balls.He hit 11 sixes and 6 fours.This record of Fastest Century of just 37 balls has not been broken by any batsman till date.He was out for 102.And Pakistan made a huge total of 371 for 9 wickets in 50 overs.With contributions from the Captain Saeed Anwar who made 115 and Saleem Malik who made 43.Sri Lanka in the second innings were All Out for 289.Pakistan had won the match by 82 runs.And the Man Of the Match was undoubtedly the record holder Shahid Afridi who made 102 and got one wicket while bowling.
